This is the most uselessly cool thing I've seen in a while. It's a bad joke taken way too far.

NOT_TRUE_OR_FALSE

|

A big thread on The Daily WTF has opened up on the topic of tri-state booleans. A majority of folks seem to be rushing to the defense of today's offender, who has introduced a constant named NOT_TRUE_OR_FALSE into his code. This kind of abuse is very common and has always driven me nuts.

There is one voice of reason (with a lame handle, "Dude Guy") amidst the madness, though:

This is just [the] good old problem of representing unknown information on a database, on which many people have written a fair amount, of which many, many more have read nothing. One classic problem: there is a difference between using a third value to represent "the real-world entity represented by this record has a value for this, but it is unknown," "the entity represented could have a value for this in the real world, but it actually happens not to have one," and "the real world is such that the entity described can't have a value for this." In short, people tend to systematically confuse data that represents facts about the real-world entities [with] questions and metadata about the completeness of the representation.

Thank you, Dude Guy, whoever you are.

Ok, so I really meant to make this a daily thing with the photos. I've been taking them but just not posting, partly because the flickr blog this! stuff was just too much of a pain...anyway...

There's a big mural of an undersea scene on the side of Marshall Elementary. This sea lion is always there to greet me, letting me that I'm about halfway to work, letting me know about about halfway home. Thanks Mr. Sea Lion!

Vincent Grosso

|

Somethingawful.com recently had a post pointing at a new and truly awful 'for-sale' page posted by actor/director/nazi Vincent Gallo. (I guess he thought his already plenty awful home page needed a comanion piece). He's such a sad sociopathic narcissistic insecure right wing nut job, it's hard not to feel sorry for him.

But he's also just gross. But now he's really really gross. Somethingawful actually seem to have missed the most truly awful part of Mr. Gallo's little garage sale - go there and scroll to the bottom to see for yourself.

...

If that makes you feel as uncomfortable as it did me, it might help to go see that he has at least been deservedly fugged here and here.
