This java.net article on the changing nature of software employment elicited the following fairly awesome comment:
More Fascist propaganda - I'm 31 have a BSCS and 4 years of experience and I can't make a living writing software while I can make it driving a truck or working a clerk at the post office. The Real World: 1. Money does matter. 2. A Java or other Software Developer in the U.S. is usually doing integration, support, or other bs (I.E. not software dev). 3. Most Software development is not in the U.S. and will not be until the exchange rates trade rules are balanced 4. The U.S. is going down the tubes fast due to government and elistist greed (mainly high taxes, regulation, and false exchange rates). 5. The U.S. is due for a revolution. 6. The Engineer, Mathmatician, and Scientist will own the future. 7. Socialism is a failure. 8. Fascism is a failure. 9. Competitive advantage is the only path to freedom. Note: Competitive Advantage is just a fancy term for trade without unequal government intervention. 10. All the people in the world without the ability to build their own robot by 2030 will be dead or a slave. 11. I embrace the future and shred the tyrants.

I think I'm getting old. More and more, I just don't understand the music the kids are listening to these days. But occasionally some kind soul reminds me that I'm probably not supposed to understand it:
Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” is one of the most baffling pieces of music of the modern age. It’s got something to do with cheerleaders—that much is clear...[more]
Not quite a fountain of youth, but I'll take it.
Had dinner at Delfina's the other night. On the way home, noticed this parking sign on a nearby garage:
DO NOT PARK HERE THE WRATH OF THE ANCIENTS WILL FALL UPON YOUR HEAD. YOUR SHOELACES WILL NOT STAY TIED. RABID SQUIRRELS WILL INVADE YOUR HOME. FOOD IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR WILL MYSTERIOUSLY SPOIL. YOUR VEHICLE WILL START MAKING THAT EXPENSIVE KNOCKING SOUND AGAIN AND NO-ONE WILL TALK TO YOU AT PARTIES.
It gets a half-point penalty for hyphenating 'no one' but this is otherwise fairly brilliant.
YOU WILL ALSO SERIOUSLY PISS OFF THE B*TCH WHO PAYS GOOD MONEY FOR THIS GARAGE AND NOBODY WANTS THAT.
The following quote from Barbara Bush, taken while touring a refugee center in Texas, is making the rounds in the blogosphere now. I gotta say this really is over the top.
"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program 'Marketplace.' "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."
You can listen to the whole thing here.
